Here are the industries based on sales tax revenue.  If up YoY then recovered, if down YoY then still has impact from economic collapse from COVID.  Comparing FY October 2020 vs FY October 2021:

  • Car sales: -6.12% (close to full recover from COVID)
  • Fuel sales: -8.34%
  • Franchise Tax collected: -64.17% (ouch)
  • Oil production: -42.22% (Yikes big hit to what protected Texas from the last recession)
  • Insurance Tax: +10.36%
  • Cigs & Tobacco: -11.87% (guess people living healthier)
  • Natural Gas Production: -32.92% (Further pain for Texas)
  • Alcohol: -24.20% (people opting for Rx sedation, those bars shut down hurting)
  • Hotel: -33.31% (FUBAR'd)
  • Utilities: -52.46 (Commercial shut down didn't help them, FUBAR'd)
