BMW is being investigated by the SEC for using shady tactics to boost their sales. You know you are successful when you can survive a government investigation as they know they will get paid by the target company. Not saying if BMW did anything wrong.
However when compared to a competitor like Tesla, who beta tests their own drivers, breaks as many security laws as are written but still nothing, I think is a reflection of who is making money and who isn't. Go after BMW as a government entity and get a good payout. Go after Tesla who doesn't make money, has no cash what does it matter.
So the lesson may be don't judge a company by the stock hype, but judge it by actual investigations that pay out. If you can pay out, you are in business and it can afford the protection payment. Can't pay, your company is not really a player.
