2016 saw the fallout from Colin Kaepernick events.  Now just over 3 years removed, where's the attendance at for the NFL.  When Kaepernick started his work, the NFL peaked with its attendance at just shy of 17.8M spectators.

NFL Attendence 2019 numbers according to ESPN is showing around 15.5-16M. The trend continues to drop for 2017, 2018 & 2019.

Typically back to back quarters economically means a recession. However, 3 years of drop three is something there.

What is of interest is the ticket price trend.  It continues to go up.

The ticket prices continue to increase per Statistica

NFL Ticket PriceIs the NFL just getting too expensive to go?  As seeing in other industries that are facing dropping customers, they are simply increasing the prices on those remaining.

Ultimately the consumer has the power to determine. But even if there is demand to go if the prices out strip the ability to pay, it will drop.

The drop in attendance is seen in other sports like MLB.

Is this just an indicator of a negative economic outlook that people are unwilling to recognize now?
