Total corporate debt is actually much higher. Adding the debt of small medium sized enterprises, family businesses, and other business which are not listed in stock exchanges ads another $5.5 trillion. In other words, total US corporate debt is $15.5 trillion, 74% of US GDP.

Black Friday is Here

Submitted by Chris Ducret on Fri, 11/29/2019 - 17:12

Remember when there was Black Friday (on Friday) and Cyber Monday. Now Black Friday ads are popping up in early November or late October.  And why not, retails is having a rough time. Getting anyone into the store is helpful.  Now the gloves are off between online and brick n mortar.  Cyber Monday is no longer and it is a free for all among the biggest in the business.  No room for the little guy anymore.  With all the competition that is great for consumers, ultimately are the consumers going to arrive?

Oil Rig Count, What's Up

Submitted by Chris Ducret on Wed, 11/27/2019 - 12:50

Took a quick look at US Oil Rig Counts published by Baker Hughes.  As of November 22, 2019 there are 671 rigs operating in the United States.  Not sure how to view this.  In December of 2015 there were over 1500 rigs operating. The low point was May of 2016 when the rig count was around 320.  In a span of 5 months, 80% of rigs came off line.

In perspective of 2016-2019 the industry has doubled. However the YTD trend is not looking good.  Starting with 877 rigs in January, with rigs reducing every week of 2019. The rigs are down nearly 25% for the year.

University Bloat the Cause Administrative? No!

Submitted by Chris Ducret on Tue, 11/26/2019 - 18:25

Recent notes coming out that University Administration is nearly equal to the professors.  The blame for the rising cost of school seems to be this growth pattern found across the country.  I think this is distraction. How can you blame a university for increasing administration. That is all they have left. University enrollment peaked around 2010 yet. So you don't need more teachers. But charging more money.  Why not charge more money.

Telsa Truck Window Break

It was a long night for Telsa and their new truck release.  Been a rough week with a horrible evening, preceded by SpaceX blowing its top.

When you are about to shell out for your EV and the idea of that $7500 tax credit. Just keep in mind if you are married filing jointly with 2 kids you will need an income of <$115k PA, to realize the full Tax Credit. If you owe less than $7500, say $5000 in taxes, you will not be receiving a check for $2500 as a refund. Doesn't work that way.

Sticks and Stone for Today?

Submitted by Chris Ducret on Sun, 11/17/2019 - 15:56

The old nursery rhyme

Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never harm me.

Coming about sometime in the mid to late 1800s (Wikipedia) looks to be null in the 201X's now.

Does the rhyme need to be updated?  Suggestions?

How about?

Will use sticks and stones to break your bones because of the names you call me.

How about

I will break your bones as names harm me.
